Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father was a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny child, forcing her mother to provide for the family by being a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in school. The school she was attending just two years later in order to pursue a career as an actor. It was not without challenges. After landing a gig as a model in New York as a model for a detective magazine she was unable to get jobs for stage. She then worked as a hat check girl at a night club before calling it quits and returning to Boston. She worked as an usherette in the mornings and performed at the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first acting position that was permanent. In addition, she was a drama student and later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
